In one of his first contacts with the press after his release, the dissident Oscar Elias Biscet, the strongest and best known of 75 dissidents jailed in 2003 during a crackdown, called for freedom for Cuba, while Castro brothers urged to step down.

"It seems that we are rapidly approaching a crossroads in history that will determine the happiness and prosperity in the years of our people,''he said." We call on all Cubans to take action. We must seize the moment.''
